Neuroprotective Benefit: Noopept appears to be neuroprotective in numerous mouse research studies, although it has a relatively short half-life and is burned up in the body fairly quickly.
Noopept is a nootropic developed at the Zakusov Institute of Pharmacology
(Russian Academy of Medical Sciences) by T. A. Gudasheva. It is one of several nootropics developed
based on the structure of piracetam. Its advantage over piracetam is that it can be taken at a lower
Noopept has a short half life (5-10 minutes in rodents) but some of its effects remain in the brain one hour after noopept is administered. Given noopept’s short half-life, many of its cognitive-enhancing effects are likely mediated through its major metabolites. Metabolites are the products and intermediates of cellular metabolism. Metabolites can have a multitude of functions, including energy conversion, signaling, etc.
In an open-label study of patients with mild cognitive disorders (e.g. cerebrovascular disease, post-traumatic CNS disorders), 56-day treatment with either noopept (10mg twice per day) or piracetam (400mgthree times per day) improved several aspects of mood and cognition (in noopept group, MMSE increased from 26 to 29). Possible side effects of noopept included sleep disturbances (5/31 patients), irritability (3/31), and increased blood pressure (7/31) (Neznamov and Teleshova, 2009).Alzheimers Drug Discovery Foundation. Modafinil has been demonstrated to have antioxidative and neuroprotective properties in laboratory experiments. In this review, we summarize and evaluate previously published evidence on modafinil’s neural, cytoprotective, and cognitive effects, as well as potential major biochemical effects that could explain the cognitive improvements seen in these research studies (1).
L-theanine is an amino acid found in certain mushrooms that has been shown to help people relax as well as control anxiety, stress, improve focus, and boost their immune system. (1).
L-Theanine has a molecular structure that is similar to glutamate, a naturally occurring amino acid that helps the brain transmit nerve impulses (2). L-Theanine has been shown to improve cognitive function and improve sleep quality (3).
L-Theanine Study – Effects of L-Theanine:
“Stress-related symptom (i.e., depression, anxiety-trait, and sleep) scores decreased and cognitive function (i.e., verbal fluency and executive function) scores improved after four weeks of L-theanine administration. The reduction in sleep quality problems (disturbances in sleep latency, sleep disturbance, and use of sleep medication) was greater in the L-theanine administration compared to the placebo administration, while verbal fluency, especially letter fluency, was improved in the L-theanine administration among individuals who showed relatively low performance at pretreatment. Moreover, L-theanine administration was safe and well complied with. Therefore, L-theanine may be a suitable nutraceutical ingredient for improving mental conditions in a healthy population.(3)”.Hidese, Shinusuke – Effects of L-Theanine Administration on Stress Related Symptoms and Cognitive Functions in Health Adults: A randomized controlled trial
Carnitine is an essential component of energy generation. It carries long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria to be oxidized (burned) for energy production. It also transfers the toxic substances produced by this cellular organelle so that they don’t build up. Because of these important roles, carnitine is concentrated in tissues that use fatty acids as a source of energy, such as skeletal and cardiac muscle .
Hemp Seed Oil
The primary distinction between hemp oil and CBD oil is that hemp oil contains little to no CBD. Hemp seed oil comes from the seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant. The seeds do not contain CBD, but they still have a rich profile of nutrients, fatty acids, and useful bioactive compounds that can also have health benefits.
The seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant are used to make hemp seed oil. Omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, as well as gamma-linolenic acid and other dietary antioxidants, are all present and it also contains a lot of B vitamins and vitamin D (3).
Melatonin reduces sleep onset, increases total sleep time, and improves overall sleep quality. Melatonin’s effects on sleep are minor, but they do not appear to fade with repeated use. Although the absolute effectiveness of melatonin over placebo is smaller than other pharmaceutical treatments for insomnia, considering its comparatively benign side-effect profile compared to pharmaceutical sleep drugs, melatonin is a safe alternative to the treatment of insomnia.
Our meta-analysis demonstrates that melatonin significantly improves sleep in subjects with primary sleep disorders compared to placebo. Melatonin reduces sleep-onset latency, increases total sleep time and improves overall sleep quality compared to placebo to a statistically significant degree.Ferracioli-Oda, Eduardo. 5-HTP works in the brain and central nervous system by increasing the production of the chemical serotonin. Serotonin can affect sleep, appetite, temperature, sexual behavior, and pain sensation. Since 5-HTP increases the synthesis of serotonin, it is used for several diseases where serotonin is believed to play an important role including depression, insomnia, obesity, and many other conditions.5-HTP:
